Job Summary
Monitor and control all plant systems including boilers, turbines, and emissions control systems while supervising Operations Department personnel to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant waste combustion and energy generation. Directly oversee functional activities of the assigned work group, enforce lockout/tagout and confined space entry programs, and troubleshoot equipment failures or upset conditions. Conduct frequent facility rounds to verify steam generation, turbine performance, security, and cleanliness, while investigating accidents and near misses. Manage production and maintenance activities, create work requests through the CMMS, and complete administrative duties such as performance appraisals, disciplinary forms, and attendance documentation. Work a swing/rotating shift with on-call duties, overtime, and unscheduled hours.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (accredited)
- Bachelor's degree, Associate degree or equivalent
- 3-5 years working in a power plant environment as a Control Room Operator or comparable position, or 5 years related experience which includes training in a power plant environment
- Skills, experience, and knowledge sufficient to acquire ASME QRO Provisional license within 12 months of employment
- Technical skills sufficient to complete required job functions such as schematics and P&ID reading
- Knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of a steam generating power plant
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Working knowledge of computer programs such as Computerized Maintenance Management System, Microsoft Office and other network portals
- Ability to work overtime, odd and unscheduled hours as required and share on-call duties
- This position requires the ability to work a swing/rotating shift
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, corrected or otherwise
- Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose operating at 125 psi line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire
- Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units
- Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways
- Ability to climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet
- Ascend and descend stairs and stationary vertical ladders as part of normal work activity and emergency egress situations
- Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
- Communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio, or face to face
- Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action
- Troubleshoot equipment and assists in diagnosing problem areas
- Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment
- Thoroughly and promptly investigates any accidents or near misses in conjunction with management team to ensure that any unsafe practices or conditions are addressed and eliminated immediately
- Maintain positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers and management
