Job Summary
Oversee safe, compliant, and efficient facility operations during assigned shifts, including direct supervision of high-pressure boilers, turbines, and steam plant systems. Conduct regular plant rounds, coordinate personnel, and ensure adherence to safety regulations, environmental permits, and state licensing requirements. Direct operational actions during emergencies, approve lockout/tagout procedures, and lead assigned projects from the Operations Manager. Train and mentor shift personnel to build a technically capable, cross-trained workforce while troubleshooting plant issues and maximizing performance. Maintain all required site-specific and state-mandated certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Three plus years of supervisory experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment
- Active New Jersey Operating Engineer/Boiler Operator license (Black Seal, Blue Seal, Red Seal, or equivalent appropriate to facility equipment)
- Hands-on experience with high-pressure boilers and electric generating equipment
- Detailed knowledge of steam-generating power plant operations, instrumentation, and control systems
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to work rotating shifts (days/nights), including weekends, holidays, outage periods, and vacation coverage
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work at heights and within confined spaces
- Must qualify to wear a full-face respirator
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in power plant or resource recovery operations preferred
- Bachelor of Science degree preferred
