Job Summary
Shift Coordinator oversees 24/7 shelter operations, supervising 12-14 Residential Counselors and providing crisis intervention, staff scheduling (including on-call coverage), training and coaching, evaluations, and adherence to health, safety and regulatory standards. Works with the Shelter Manager, Family Services Manager, and Program Director to ensure effective operation, grievance handling, and accurate roster and data management. Requires a B.A. in a related field, at least two years of supervising paid staff, experience with unionized environments, and CPR/First Aid within six months; ability to work varied shifts and thrive in a fast-paced, diverse setting.
Required Qualifications
- B.A. in social welfare, counseling, hospitality, or related field strongly preferred
- At least two years of proven experience supervising paid staff
- Experience supervising union-represented employees preferred
- Experience working with mental health-related issues, substance abuse, domestic violence, and HIV/AIDS related issues
- Two years of experience managing a 24/7 human services program (e.g., homeless shelter, domestic violence shelter, or residential treatment program) preferred
- Working knowledge of federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
- Able to maintain a flexible work schedule and to work evening, weekend, and overnight shifts as needed
- Able to maintain a quality work place in a diverse, fast paced, and changing environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- CPR and First Aid certification within first six months of hire
- Criminal background check, fingerprint imaging, TB clearance post offer
