Required Qualifications

• •Current Kansas Veterinary License
• •Maintain professional liability insurance at levels sufficient to meet minimum requirements recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association
• •Veterinary medical knowledge

• •Current Veterinary License
• •NVAP Accreditation
• •Have current USDA certification or must be willing to become accredited to perform health certificates
• •Attention to detail
• •Ability to speak effectively and communicate clearly
• •Able to hear average conversations
• •Able to use both hands for repetitive actions; firm grasp, precise movements, fine manipulation, typing
• •Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
• •Ability to climb, balance, kneel, stoop, crouch, or crawl
• •The employee may be pulled, jolted or jumped on by small and large animals
• •Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• •May also walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time
• •Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization and supervision and to remain focused during times of distraction
• •Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers and common fractions
• •Ability to perform conversions and figuring medication dose/weight
• •Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents
• •Ability to communicate clearly (verbal & written)
• •Ability to cope with stress, loss/ death/grief, emotional and physical fatigue, long hours, and a variety of different human personalities
• •Must be passionate about the mission of the Kansas Humane Society
• •Must understand shelter medicine, population health, and shelter flow
• •Must adhere to the highest ethical standards of veterinary care
• •Must adhere to state and federal laws governing the practice of veterinary medicine
• •Must be willing to see other perspectives
• •Must maintain strict confidentiality of client, patient, and donor information
• •Must be willing to train and utilize PetPoint for entering examination findings, test results and vaccination history
• •PetPoint will also be used for scheduling appointments
• •Must comply with KHS safety policies and procedures in order to maintain a healthy and safe environment
• •Must be able to work as a member of a team, and independently
• •Must be able to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions with little to no supervision
• •A respect for the human/animal bond is a must
• •Must be able to work in areas with high noise level, occasional foul odors, dangerous animals, toxic chemicals, environmental contaminants, zoonotic diseases, and challenging customers
• •Must be willing to work in excess of normal workday and work weekends
• •Position requires a minimum of 40-45 hours per week which consists of four, ten-hour days per week
• •These hours should be coordinated with the other KHS veterinarians and clinic team to assure veterinarian coverage seven days a week
• •Expected to work extended hours as needed including occasional evening/weekend hours
• •Respond to after-hours calls or messages in the event of an emergency
