Shelter Support Staff

Shelter Support Staff assist with daily shelter operations at Just Compassion’s 50-unit family shelter in Gresham, OR, including meal preparation, facility upkeep, guest support, and coordination with case management and youth services to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. The role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and a team-oriented mindset, with trauma-informed and housing-first practice guiding interactions. Responsibilities include participant engagement, meal service, resource coordination, safety and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas, inventory management, documentation (daily logs, meal counts, HMIS as assigned), and collaboration with shelter staff to support coordinated participant care. Preferred qualifications include Food Handler’s Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days) and bilingual abilities in languages commonly spoken by participants (e.g., Spanish, Russian). The position operates on an evening shift and emphasizes confidentiality, professionalism, and adherence to agency policies.
