Job Summary
Shelter Supervisor for Day Shift at Rockwood Bridge Shelter in Portland, OR. Leads shelter staff, provides advocacy and referral services, and ensures safe, efficient operation of shelter activities. Responsible for training and guiding Residential Advocates, coordinating coverage, participating in program design and evaluation, overseeing staff timecards, and collaborating with the shelter team to meet participant needs. Requires leadership experience, ability to solve problems, strong communication, and knowledge of homelessness and related services. Must complete required certifications (First Aid/CPR/AED, Bloodborne Pathogens, Narcan) within specified timelines; bilingual English/Spanish preferred. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent social services experience acceptable. Full-time, nonexempt position with benefits; located at the Rockwood Bridge Shelter in Portland, OR.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or two (2) years of social services experience, or one (1) year of experience working at Transition Projects
- Demonstrated ability to train, lead, and provide support to colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to be an effective problem solver
- Understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, chemical dependency, mental health, domestic violence and sexual assault
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Ability to appropriately assess a situation and take corrective action as necessary
- Knowledge of services available to low-income and homeless persons through Transition Projects and other agencies or the demonstrated ability to obtain such knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in the delivery of services to participants
- Computer literacy. Demonstrated ability to use word processing, database, spreadsheet, e- mail, and Internet programs
- Excellent oral, written, and telephone communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish fluency is strongly preferred
- Office/clerical experience. Familiarity with office equipment (copier, fax, multi-line phone system, etc.)
