Job Summary
Shelter Supervisor leads and coordinates operational, administrative, and supervisory duties at the City Shelter, overseeing Animal Care and Veterinarian Assistant teams, answering public inquiries, performing euthanasia, and ensuring animal health and welfare. Responsibilities include training and supervising staff, assigning and evaluating work, maintaining kennel sanitation, managing medications prescribed by veterinarians, keeping detailed activity records, coordinating reclaim and adoption processes, and handling health monitoring and disease detection. The role requires readiness to work evenings, holidays, weekends, overtime, and on-call shifts as weather and department needs demand, and involves compliance with shelter procedures, safety, and regulatory requirements. Strong communication, conflict resolution, and ability to handle animals safely (including euthanasia) are essential.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum one year of experience in animal care service and shelter experience
- Basic Animal Control Certificate for the State of Texas within one year of hire
- State of Texas Euthanasia Certification required within one year of hire
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Pre-exposure rabies vaccinations within six months of hire
