Job Summary
Manage the front desk and provide safety for families at the Hopes Portage Shelter during weekend hours from 2pm to 10:30pm. Oversee building cleanliness by sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and wiping down shared spaces. Act as the weekend activity coordinator to build trusting relationships and help clients navigate challenges while utilizing conflict resolution and crisis management skills. Maintain client confidentiality, enter data accurately, and collaborate with staff to coordinate services using knowledge of community resources.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with households who are experiencing homelessness
- Experience working with elderly
- Experience working with youth
- Experience working with young adults
- Awareness of community programs and resources
- Ability to implement a strength-based and empowering approach to service delivery
- Knowledge to understand the challenges of clients with mental health, chemical dependency, and behavioral issues
- Knowledge of principles and practices of conflict resolution
- Knowledge of principles of record keeping and record management
- Understanding of shelter policies and procedures
- Passion for serving people that were formerly or currently unhoused
- Ability to perceive the needs and concerns of others
- Ability to interact in a tactful manner
- Ability to resolve conflicts
- Ability to mediate disputes
- Ability to build personal skills
- Ability to maintain composure and work effectively under stressful conditions
- Ability to demonstrate a pleasant and enthusiastic demeanor
- Ability to collaborate as a team member with colleagues, staff and community representatives
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Valid Minnesota State Driver's License
- Proof of insurance
- Review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report
- Mobility to drive a motor vehicle in order to attend meetings
- Ability to walk or stand to a significant degree
- Ability to sit most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage
- Ability to occasionally lift file boxes or heavier materials with help from others
- Ability to frequently lift and carry light objects
- Availability for weekend hours (2pm-10:30pm)
