Job Summary
Shelter Monitor at 5Cities Homeless Coalition provides oversight at a transitional shelter to maintain the health and safety of adults, assist with meals and guest interactions, and support setup/cleanup across 24-hour operations with three 8-hour shifts (7:00am–3:30pm, 3:00pm–11:30pm, 11:00pm–7:30am). The role emphasizes welcoming participants, de-escalation of conflicts, monitoring activities and food distribution, reporting, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. Requires ability to work with homeless individuals, strong communication, cultural sensitivity, initiative, reliability, and the ability to pass background screening and tuberculosis test. CPR/First Aid certification and valid CA driver license with insurance are required; bilingual Spanish is preferred. Required Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively with homeless individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Interest in helping volunteers and participants feel welcome while ensuring a safe environment.
- Ability to develop rapport, provide information, and refer with sensitivity to cultural issues.
- Display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
- Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Completion of a 5Cities Homeless Coalition application for employment.
- Bilingual Spanish, preferred.
- Previous experience with social services and/or homeless programs preferred.
- CPR/First Aid Certification.
