Shelter Manager 2nd shift

Job Summary

Directly supervise the second shift of the emergency shelter staff, providing coaching, conducting annual evaluations, and ensuring adherence to agency policies and safety standards. Manage daily operations by responding to program calls, addressing emergencies, overseeing pest control and bed bug processes, and maintaining accurate census data through HMIS functions. Coordinate with case management to identify clients needing intensive support, review shift reports, and manage incident and work pass processes. Serve as a liaison between guests, agencies, and administration while conducting orientation and training for new staff. Rotate on-call responsibilities every four to six weeks to serve as primary management contact for shelter operations.

Required Qualifications

  • High school degree
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • At least year experience working with homeless and/or in a shelter, residential setting, with adult clients experiencing mental health and drug dependence disorders
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Proficient with computer skills and the ability to use computer to enter data and create reports in databases and other software
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately resolve crisis situations
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and ability to set limits
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows (MSWord, Excel and publisher)
  • Good working knowledge of e-mail and Internet and HMIS/Clarity
  • Positive attitude; energetic; dedicated to helping the homeless and/or chemically dependent
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and talk and hear
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision
  • Must be able to work Monday-Friday 2:30pm-10:30pm
  • Must be able to participate in a rotating weekend and on-call schedule
  • Must be able to work outside of regularly scheduled hours to support shelter operations, provide coverage across shifts, respond to urgent needs, and ensure appropriate supervision and continuity of services
  • Must be able to respond to program-related calls
  • Must be able to provide guidance and support to staff
  • Must be able to address operational and emergency situations
  • Must be able to ensure continuity of services
  • Must be able to provide professional direction to shelter operations
  • Must be able to ensure operations are in line with current policies and procedures
  • Must be able to act as a liaison between administration and case managers
  • Must be able to communicate pertinent information with the next shift's supervisor
  • Must be able to directly supervise 2nd shift of the emergency shelter staff
  • Must be able to provide coaching to staff on performance
  • Must be able to complete annual evaluations of staff
  • Must be able to ensure the shelter environment is clean, free from hazards and maintained in accordance with safety standards
  • Must be able to work with the administrative assistant on scheduling shelter staff and ensuring adequate coverage of the shelter, at all times
  • Must be able to oversee the pest control process with all shift supervisors
  • Must be able to orient new staff and provide on-going training and development through orientation and annual training plans
  • Must be able to conduct one-on-one supervision and team meetings with staff
  • Must be able to help oversee the bed bug process
  • Must be able to oversee data quality
  • Must be able to ensure accuracy of daily census and bed chart
  • Must be able to train and mentor staff on HMIS functions so they can proficiently carry out the duties of entry and exit of shelter, as well as complete intakes, process alerts and record services
  • Must be able to coordinate with the case management team on identifying clients who need intensive case management
  • Must be able to collaborate with shelter director and other shift supervisors concerning guests, staff, and building issues
  • Must be able to provide emergency crisis intervention, problem solving, and de-escalation to guests as well as supporting staff
  • Must be able to be a liaison between guests and agencies and Siena Francis House operations and guests
  • Must be able to promote customer service to clients and outside entities
  • Must be able to respond to complaints and manage responses to formal client complaints per facility policy
  • Must be able to oversee work pass process and review work passes and coordinate with case management for housing plans
  • Must be able to review shift reports daily and address issues, as warranted, in shift reports
  • Must be able to ensure orientation of shelter guests and rights and responsibilities
  • Must be able to review and manage all incident reports and address any follow-up actions needed
  • Must be able to rotate on-call responsibilities with other Siena Francis House Supervisors
  • Must be able to perform duties of supervisees if needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience training and supervising experience
