Job Summary
Shelter Kitchen Manager responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations at a Men’s shelter, supervising a diverse staff, teaching cooking skills, planning menus, and ordering supplies within budget. Leads daily meal production, ensures food safety and sanitation, trains staff (including individuals with disabilities), coordinates with community partners and volunteers, and reports to the Director of Kitchen Programs. The role emphasizes leadership, mentoring, relationship-building with shelter staff and guests, and sustaining program resources through donations and collaboration. Requires strong kitchen management, inventory control, staff scheduling, and adherence to safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3-years successful work experience in food service
- Minimum 3-years managerial or supervisory experience of 3+ employees
- Minimum 1-year professional experience preparing food for 250-300 people
- Strong understanding of basic food preparation techniques
- Current ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
- Basic understanding of food and labor costs in commercial food operations
- Ability to motivate and obtain cooperation from others
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Valid Driver's License and access to a vehicle
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds
- Genuine desire to work with socially disadvantaged populations
- High ethical standards

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Written communication to name and organize files and complete timesheets
