Shelter Counsellor

Establish and maintain a client caseload focusing on relationship support, safety planning, and case planning based on client strengths. Provide practical and emotional support to help clients overcome crisis, explore responses to violence, and identify future options. Collaborate with internal staff and external systems while utilizing engagement skills to validate clients and assist them in building action plans. Complete required documentation including danger assessments, case notes, and intake forms to ensure compliance with accreditation standards. Manage risk by identifying concerns and escalating them to supervisors per established processes. Provide telephone support through the crisis line and assist with basic needs, food service, and building safety protocols. Attend monthly staff meetings and required committees while maintaining current professional registration and certifications.
