Job Summary
Relief Shelter Advocate provides crisis intervention, emotional support, information and referrals, and ongoing support and services to domestic and sexual violence victims/survivors and their families at Lewis House. Responsibilities include assisting residents in person or by crisis line calls, safety planning, housing and referral coordination, follow-up on police reports, shelter operations duties, and collaboration with volunteers. The role supports group activities, case consultations, and educational groups; staff may respond to hospital calls for forensic exams and participate in staff meetings. This on-call, fill-in position requires a minimum of two shifts per month with opportunities for day, evening, night, and weekend work.
Required Qualifications
- One to two years related experience working with victims of domestic and/or sexual violence.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, but experience in lieu of degree will be considered.
- Completion of 40-hour sexual assault training prior to employment is preferred, but will help obtain if needed (within six months of employment)
