Job Summary
Shelter Advocate provides round-the-clock shelter coverage, handles intake and assessments, delivers crisis intervention and safety planning, maintains documentation and case records, supports shelter operations, and advocates for clients within Journey Center for Safety and Healing. Key duties include answering the helpline, coordinating with internal and external services, addressing safety concerns, documenting interactions, and contributing to trauma-informed care for adults and children in domestic-violence contexts. Strong communication, organizational, and compassionate advocacy skills are essential.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in domestic violence and child abuse
- Valid Ohio driver’s license with appropriate insurance coverage
- Must be available to work extended and non-traditional work hours
- Knowledge of crisis intervention practices and resources; ability to assess and respond to crisis situations
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and client records
- Experience in and commitment to trauma-informed care and advocacy in DV/child abuse contexts
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within shelter operations
- Commitment to Journey Center’s mission and values
- Willingness to transport clients using agency vehicles if needed
