Job Summary
Plan, layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts for aircraft and components while maintaining critical dimensional tolerances. Operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, presses, forming rolls, and routers to cut, bend, block, form, and straighten materials. Mark dimensions and reference lines on material using shop mathematics to develop and trace product patterns. Review military technical manuals, technical orders, modification work orders, blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine fabrication sequences and methods. Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces using hand tools and portable power tools. Comply with safety rules and procedures while using required protective equipment.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 0-2 years experience
- Knowledge of simplistic tasks associated with the fabrication and assembly of electronic and mechanical hardware assemblies
Desired Qualifications
- 3 years' experience
- Five years experience in planning, layout and building to blueprints, or product specifications
- Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes, including cutting, bending, welding, and assembly techniques
