Job Summary
Rip out, lay-out, repair, and install shipboard sheet metal products and parts, including overhead ceilings, joiner bays, doors, workbenches, deck grating, and deck plating. Utilize blueprints to measure, mark dimensions, and install structural steel and stainless steel members using drills, air rivet guns, and saws. Perform calculations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals while adhering to all safety rules and company policies. Maintain high attention to detail and alertness during activities involving hazardous machinery and toxic chemicals. Work onboard naval ships with some travel required, reporting to the Superintendent, Structural. Six years of related experience, including three years in the maritime environment, is required.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate, or GED
- Six (6) years of related experience, three (3) of which were in the maritime environment onboard naval ships, installing habitability spaces including berthing equipment, false ceilings, deck grating, joiner bhds and joiner doors
- Must have experience using hand and power tools to include drills, air rivet guns, angle grinders and saws
- Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals
- Excellent math skills
- Able to lift materials and tools up to 50 lbs
- Work to be performed onboard naval ships
- Some travel required
