Job Summary
Fabricate, build, and install metal structures and equipment for commercial refrigeration, HVAC, and mechanical projects by reading technical drawings, measuring, cutting, and welding pieces according to specifications. Select appropriate materials, cut and shape sheet metal to required dimensions, and secure seams using riveting, rolling, soldering, or steel screws. Maintain a clean workspace, utilize a computerized management system to record progress, and safely operate machinery and power tools while complying with industry safety standards. Communicate effectively with customers and support department goals within a high-stress, fast-paced environment. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to safely use machinery, power and hand tools involved with sheet metal work
- Ability to read and interpret operation and repair manuals, schematics, and mechanical blueprints
- Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn computer programs
- Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Must be able to maintain a stationary position for 2-4 hours
- Continually required to walk inside and outside jobsites and other work locations
- Prolonged periods of lifting, reaching, and constant maneuvering of large metal pieces
- Frequently operates machinery and power tools involved with sheet metal work
- Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Repetitive finger motion, hand dexterity, outward and upward arm extension, and elbow bending is required
- Occasionally required to ascend/descend stairs and ladders to access all areas of equipment
- Performs work in a constant standing position with regular bending and stooping
- Constantly required to perform work at or below chest level
- Prolonged periods of head & neck positioning downward
- Must be able to exchange accurate information through oral and written communication and make fine discriminations in sound
- Must be able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
- Able to observe details at close range, distance range, peripherally and with the ability to adjust focus
- Frequently utilizes visual acuity to operate power tools & equipment and read technical information
- Frequently required to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally 75+ pounds
- Frequently works near moving mechanical parts
- Frequently exposed to loud noise and vibration consistent with use of power tools and equipment and sharp/raw metal edges
