Sharp 7th Grade Girls Basketball Head Coach

Job Summary

Plan the assigned basketball program, organize and supervise daily practices, and teach individual fundamentals, team strategy, and game rules to student athletes. Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parental consent, while maintaining records of team statistics and lettering requirements. Provide emotional support, instill sportsmanship, and administer first aid according to established procedures. Make press releases and school announcements in conjunction with the District Athletic Director. Direct student managers and statisticians, monitor locker rooms for cleanliness and security, and account for all equipment. Arrive early before practices and contests to prepare and remain until all players depart.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age per KHSAA guidelines
  • Successful completion of ABLE test
  • Criminal records check
  • AIDS awareness training
  • Current certification in first aid and CPR
  • Any combination equivalent to: a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate, a minimum of 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university and one year of experience coaching in a school athletic program
  • College degree is desired
  • Previous coaching or playing experience in assigned position
  • Knowledge of Fundamentals of various sport
  • Knowledge of Pendleton County Policy and Procedures working within the basic framework and philosophy of the school district for that sport
  • Knowledge of Pendleton County Athletic Handbook – especially requirements concerning physical exams, parental consent, eligibility and concussion protocol
  • Knowledge of Existing Pendleton County, State and League regulations
  • Knowledge of Health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of Proper line of command and refers student/parent requests or grievances through proper channels
  • Knowledge of Meetings that require attendance
  • Knowledge of Maintaining discipline and work to increase morale and cooperation within the school sports program
  • Knowledge of Direct student managers and statisticians on respective teams
  • Knowledge of Budgetary items and Title IV
  • Knowledge of Assist Athletic Director in carrying out of responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Monitor equipment and locker rooms for use by authorized persons only
  • Knowledge of Oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
  • Ability to Provided training in use of proper techniques, proper use of equipment, rules and other unique regulations of the sport to athletes
  • Ability to Assist in preparation to hold scheduled sporting events/practices and adheres to scheduled facility times
  • Ability to Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites
  • Ability to Determine discipline, delineate procedures concerning due process. Contact parents when a student becomes ineligible
  • Ability to Account for all equipment. Collection of all equipment and/or replacement costs
  • Ability to Examine locker rooms before and after practices/games checking on general cleanliness of the facility
  • Ability to Secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty
  • Ability to Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use
  • Ability to Make press releases and school announcements in conjunction with District Athletic Director/Principal
  • Ability to Instruct team members/assistant coaches/parents of changes in the rules and teach fundamentals of the sport
  • Ability to Maintains a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering
  • Ability to Arrive early enough before practice, contests, meetings to adequately prepare and remain until all players have departed
  • Ability to Assist with planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs
  • Ability to Compile data and verify data and prepare reports
  • Ability to Learn district organization, operations, policies, and objectives
  • Ability to Work independently with little direction
  • Ability to Plan and organize work
  • Ability to Administer first aid according to established procedures
  • Ability to Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to Maintain current knowledge in the sport
  • Ability to Observe health and safety regulations
  • Ability to Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to Learn and apply safety procedures and regulations
  • Ability to Work confidentially with discretion
  • Ability to Understand and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to Work cooperatively with others
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull heavy weights up to approximately 50 pounds

Desired Qualifications

  • College degree is desired
  • Previous coaching or playing experience in assigned position
