Job Summary
CDL Class A Shuttle Driver transports products between domicile yards and the distribution center. Duties include hooking and unhooking trailers from tractors and converter dollies, loading and unloading trailers, securing shipments, inspecting trucks for safe operating condition, ensuring paperwork is complete, and adhering to DOT regulations and hours-of-service rules. The role requires lifting and moving freight, handling hazardous materials when present, maintaining logs, and complying with company policies and federal/state regulations. Candidates must have a valid Class A CDL with doubles endorsement, be at least 21, possess a clean motor vehicle record, have at least 1 year of tractor-trailer driving experience, and pass drug, POET, and alcohol tests as applicable. Strong communication skills and the ability to read shipping paperwork and perform basic calculations are required.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License for interstate commerce with a minimum of 1 year driving experience with a Class A-CDL with doubles endorsement.
- SGC Foodservice is a interstate carrier, by law you must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (typically four points or less against license).
- Must have previous tractor-trailer driving experience (at minimum 1 Year).
- Must have the ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical calculations with general mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, responsibly handle customer payments, etc.
- Must have good oral communication skills.
- Must be able to follow instructions and take directions via phone or through company onboard electronic log device (Samsara).
- Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
- Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance, and transportation of hazardous materials as needed.
- Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Dept. of Transportation.
- Must satisfactorily pass a drug test.
- Must satisfactorily pass a POET (Post Offer Employment Test assessing physical capability to perform the job's essential functions and physical demands.)
- Must satisfactorily pass an alcohol test (if applicable).
