Job Summary
Severe Needs Para Educator at Liberty Middle School provides specialized support under licensed special education staff to students with severe needs, including adapting curriculum for individuals or small groups, implementing IEP-driven accommodations and programming, assisting with materials, record-keeping, and basic physical care. The role includes online/remote instruction duties (supporting remote learning, re-teaching curriculum, setting up executive functioning strategies) and assignments across Autism, BD, SED, Homebound/FAPE programs, and ILC. The position emphasizes teamwork with licensed staff, crisis de-escalation, behavior modification techniques, and the ability to work in both in-person and online environments; requires CPI training, medication administration training, and strong communication and organizational skills.
Required Qualifications
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
- No professional work experience required
- Mandatory Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training for Autism/BD/ILC assignments
- Medication administration training provided by the District as needed
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
- Intermediate interpersonal relations skills
- Intermediate organizational skills
- Ability to modify curriculum for individual needs
- Ability to implement behavior modification techniques
- Ability to de-escalate and manage volatile situations
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students
- If working in DHH Program, ability to understand impacts of hearing loss on learning
- If working in Homebound program, ability to set boundaries and build relationships in home setting
- Physical requirements and working conditions described (medium work strength, indoor work, etc.)
- Experience working with students with autism, behavior challenges, medically fragile conditions, hearing or vision loss, or intellectual disabilities
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred
