Job Summary
Settlement Worker in Schools provides assistance to newcomer students and families as they integrate into the school system and community. Responsibilities include screening and client support (assessing program eligibility, solution-focused counseling, referrals to community services), delivering newcomer-related workshops and information sessions, assisting with school integration and community settlement, participating in case management meetings, providing crisis support when needed, delivering information resources and services (in-person and virtual), and fostering connections with immigrant services. Requires post-secondary education (preferably in social services or settlement) and a valid driver’s license, with experience working with newcomers/refugees, strong facilitation and communication skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office; language skills (Arabic, Vietnamese, Turkish, Tamil, Mandarin) are assets. Training in AODA, Health & Safety, Bill 168, PCI Compliance, WHMIS, and Child Protection is expected.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of post-secondary education (preferably in social services or settlement) or equivalent
- Valid Class G Driver’s License and access to a vehicle for travel throughout Simcoe County
- Previous experience working with newcomers and refugees
- Knowledge of settlement services and community information resources
- Good facilitation and presentation skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Good computer skills; proficient with Microsoft Office
- Ability to communicate in Arabic, Vietnamese, Turkish, Tamil or Mandarin is an asset
- Willingness to participate in mandated training (AODA, Health & Safety Awareness, Bill 168, PCI Compliance, WHMIS, Child Protection Training)
- Police Records Check and related clearances may be required
