Job Summary

Sessional Lecturer I–III for MMG3004Y: Communication of Genetic Information in the MHSc Medical Genomics program at the University of Toronto. The role involves delivering a one-term graduate course (twice weekly, 3-hour lectures) scheduled Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., September 1, 2026 to December 15, 2026. Responsibilities include lecturing, coordinating guest speakers, preparing lectures, addressing student questions, and grading assignments, with an approximate 12 hours per week commitment. The course covers terminology and jargon in genomic research, translation of clinical information into accessible language, effective science communication, visual communication, writing of genetic test reports, direct-to-consumer genetic testing communication, professional communication, journalism and entrepreneurship, and AI in genetic analysis and communication. The position has 28 TA hours support and has multiple pay rates for Sessional Lecturer I–III, with rates subject to collective agreement. Applicants should submit a CUPE 3902 Unit 3 application form, a cover letter, and a CV with evidence of expertise in medical genetics and communication, plus referees. Preference is given to qualified individuals advanced to Sessional Lecturer II or III per the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. Note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdocs are covered by Unit 1, not Unit 3, and should not apply for Unit 3 postings.

Required Qualifications

  • Acquainted with concepts in Medical Genetics, including variant interpretation
  • Experience with science communication and communicating with a lay audience
  • Previous teaching experience is desirable but not required
  • Course is restricted to students enrolled in the MHSc Medical Genomics program (institutional requirement)
