Job Summary
Develop and optimize high-performance servo positioning controller and real-time servo firmware for enterprise-class hard disk drives. Architect robust servo systems that compensate for environmental variables (vibration, shock, supply voltage, temperature). Research, design, develop and maintain tools for characterization and qualification of robust servo design. Provide failure analysis support for integration, manufacturing, and reliability testing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to engineer design improvements, enhance robustness, and optimize performance across usage conditions. Evaluate feasibility of advanced technologies and their interaction with servo subsystems through simulation and prototyping. This role is part of WD's early career development program, with responsibilities aligned to candidates with roughly 0–2+ years of relevant experience; summer 2026 start.
Required Qualifications
- Must have MS or PhD in EE or ME
- Must have experience with servo-controller design for mechanical dynamic systems
- Must have experience with Matlab and coding in C/C++
