Job Summary
Service Writer in the automotive service department acts as the primary liaison between customers and technicians. Responsible for accurately diagnosing customer concerns, preparing detailed repair orders, and ensuring clear communication throughout the service process. Manages customer expectations, provides timely updates, and coordinates service schedules to maximize customer satisfaction and shop efficiency. Maintains detailed records of service transactions, parts used, and communications; handles complaints professionally; promotes additional services and maintenance packages. Strong emphasis on translating repair needs into clear explanations of services, pricing, and timelines, while coordinating orders and ensuring smooth workflow to support business objectives.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in the commercial truck repair industry.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems and terminology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computer systems and service management software.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience using dealership management systems (Karmak experience preferred)
- Familiarity with truck parts and inventory management
- Ability to read and interpret repair orders and technical manuals
- Bilingual abilities to assist a diverse customer base
