Job Summary
Service Technician in Training role in Calgary, AB, responsible for learning and performing a wide range of maintenance tasks to prepare apartments for occupancy and respond to resident service requests. The position emphasizes mechanical aptitude, commitment to safety, and ability to work on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related systems, along with carpentry, painting, pool maintenance, groundskeeping, and general preventive maintenance. The role includes on-call rotation after 90 days and requires effective communication with residents, vendors, and team members, while adhering to Weidner’s policies and safety practices.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude required
- Successful completion of the Service in Training curriculum within 6 months
- Able to lift and carry up to 80 pounds, climb ladders and multiple flights of stairs
- Able to use appliance dolly, push/pull up to 200 pounds
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Able to be on feet constantly for entire work shift
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong motivation to learn & contribute daily
- Able to give professional directions clearly in person, over the phone, email, and text
- Experience with Microsoft products preferred (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Yardi and Paycom experience preferred; Willing and able to learn new software programs
- Follow Weidner’s Policies and procedures and comply with Fair Housing laws
- Prompt, regular attendance; wear dress code/uniform
- Work effectively in a team environment or independently
- Willing to be assigned to other Weidner properties as needed
- Working knowledge of English; detail oriented, organized
- Criminal background check required
- Sign an agreement for voluntary drug testing
- Access to personal vehicle or reliable transportation
- Driver’s license and vehicle insurance valid and unexpired
- Must match country of work
