Job Summary
Service Engineer in Chicago performing on-site and remote troubleshooting of Supermicro server systems to resolve complex issues in an enterprise environment. Responsibilities include leading preventive maintenance actions, managing repair/parts cycle times, guiding escalation through to resolution, and providing 2nd line support to resellers/distributors. Must work with Technical Account Manager, Service Manager, and Product Manager to define service programs, contribute fault triage and training materials, run tests and simulations, and train new service engineers. Requires strong hardware diagnostics, knowledge of BIOS/drivers/application loads, and effective technical communication to drive investigations across multiple disciplines. Travel to the field is required; able to operate under TAM direction, produce meaningful reports, and adapt to a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments is a plus; familiarity with server hardware from Supermicro, EMC, DELL, HP is valuable.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred
- 2+ years of experience servicing complex X86 systems and parts
- Will consider Associates Degree in electrical technology, electronics, or equivalent military experience
- Work experience in a large enterprise or certification in Windows and Linux environments is a plus
- Hands-on experience with servers (Supermicro, EMC, DELL, HP)
- Strong technical communication skills to lead investigations with engineers of multiple disciplines
- Ability to work flexible hours and/or flexible shifts including weekends and holidays if needed
- Travel up to 25%
- Full professional proficiency in English (read/write/speak)
