Job Summary
Service Coordinator Supervisor for DESC's The Gateway, overseeing safe and orderly operations of emergency shelter and crisis interventions during the night shift. Responsibilities include enforcing agency rules, making crisis decisions (including contacting police and emergency services), staff orientation and training, client registration and documentation, shift logging, conducting staff supervision and performance evaluations, on-call coverage, coordinating referrals and meal service, recruiting and supervising volunteers, and ensuring seamless communication across shifts and with program staff. Requires strong de-escalation skills, leadership, and experience in human services or related settings.
Required Qualifications
- At least two years of work experience in human services, social services, or customer service—preferably with adults challenged by homelessness, economic disadvantages, mental illness, and/or substance use disorder OR 1 year of highly relevant experience, including DESC work experience
- Personal lived experience may substitute for some of the work experience requirements
- Demonstrated de-escalation ability
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
