Job Summary
Linguist needed to support Serbo-Croatian language requirements across government-contract language services. Responsibilities include in-person and virtual interpretation, translation of written/audio/video materials, document review/editing, and foreign language instruction in classroom or virtual settings. Open evergreen requisition for multiple language-support roles; candidates may be selected for a range of positions within YSG/TU portfolios. Qualifications require ILR-based language proficiency (CAT I-III) and security vetting where applicable; plus experience delivering adult-language instruction, idiomatic translations, consecutive interpretation, cultural awareness, ability to work in harsh environments, and ability to thrive in a high-pressure team environment. Travel may be required. Remote/CONUS locations indicated; remote work options available for Huntsville, AL and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. Clearance: CAT I/II/III requirements as specified; some roles may require security clearance.
Required Qualifications
- Must be qualified/certified at CAT I, CAT II, or CAT III with ILR levels (CAT I: ILR level 2+ in English; CAT II: ILR level 2+ in English; CAT III: ILR level 3 in English)
- CAT I linguists may be locally hired or from outside AO; CAT II linguists must be US Citizens with security vetting; CAT III linguists require TOP SECRET with SCI access or interim TS with SCI access
- Experience providing foreign language instruction to adult students
- Ability to provide idiomatic translations of nontechnical material English<->foreign language
- Consecutive, accurate translation/interpretation of ongoing conversations
- Familiarity with local culture and customs
- Willing to live/work in harsh environments and temporary facilities as mission dictates
- Ability to function under high pressure and stress
- Ability to work effectively as part of a highly trained professional team
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to government missions
- Fluent in English and the foreign language with appropriate regional varieties
- Preserve tone and register of source material
- Interpret accurately without changes, omissions, or additions
