Job Summary
The Unconventional (TU) seeks a qualified Serbian Transcriber to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). Responsibilities include translating documents and audiovisual content, handling diverse subject matter (legal, medical, financial, technical, etc.), and performing court and deposition interpretation. Materials are sensitive and require strict confidentiality. Applicants must have at least 3 years of language transcription experience, ILR 3 minimum, U.S. residency history, and lawful status (U.S. citizen, naturalized citizen, or Green Card holder with SSN). Fluency in English and the target language, and ability to preserve tone and register are required. Active Public Trust or higher security clearance is required. Remote work is available, with potential travel; locations noted include National Capital Region (NCR) and Washington, DC, CONUS locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in language transcription
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent in listening, comprehension, and writing on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen; Naturalized citizen; or Green Card holder with a Social Security Number
- Know English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual modes of communication in various contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in both English and the foreign language related to the Government’s varied roles and missions
- Write in English and foreign language fluently, including regionalisms and colloquial slang
- Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve the tone and register of source language materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
