Senior Workato Integration Engineer

Job Summary
Design, build, and maintain enterprise-grade integrations and automations using Workato across Five9's business application ecosystem. Define and maintain integration standards, reusable patterns, and design guidelines while standardizing error handling, retry logic, and dead letter queues. Optimize recipes for performance and cost, minimizing unnecessary API consumption and job usage. Implement secure authentication patterns including OAuth 2.0, JWT, and SAML, and manage secrets in accordance with least privilege principles. Troubleshoot complex, cross-system production issues and lead technical discussions with architects and business stakeholders. Mentor other integration engineers and evaluate Workato's emerging AI capabilities, including MCP and Agent Studio, into the automation strategy. This role requires working hours that overlap with the US Pacific time zone.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on integration experience
- Workato certification required (e.g., Workato Automation Pro or higher)
- Strong hands-on experience with REST APIs, including HTTP methods, authentication, pagination, rate limits, webhooks, and JSON payloads
- Experience designing reusable, versioned APIs and integrations that remain maintainable as systems evolve
- Strong understanding of authentication and security practices, including OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, Basic Auth, SAML, certificates, secret management, encryption, and least privilege access
- Proficiency working with JSON and XML, including parsing, transformation, and mapping of complex payloads
- Experience with data transformation, including mapping, filtering, aggregation, cleansing, deduplication, and schema conversion
- Working knowledge of SQL, including querying databases, troubleshooting, and relational data models
- Experience implementing robust error handling, including retry logic, dead letter queues, compensating transactions, alerts, logging, and graceful failure handling
- Understanding of event-driven architecture, including webhooks, event streams, asynchronous processing, and message-based integrations
- Familiarity with common integration patterns, including request/response, publish/subscribe, polling, batch processing, ETL, orchestration, and choreography
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and mentor other engineers
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across a distributed, global team
- The position requires working hours that overlap with the US Pacific time zone
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with, or strong interest in, business applications such as Salesforce, NetSuite, GCP, UKG, Deel, Ramp, Jira, Freshservice, and Coupa
- Familiarity with Workato's emerging AI capabilities, including MCP, Workato Genies, and Agent Studio
- Experience with version control and CI/CD practices for integration development
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tooling for integration health and performance
- Awareness of data privacy and compliance considerations (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2) as they relate to integrations
