Job Summary
Senior Watch Team Lead responsible for on-street coordination of a team of volunteers and Watch Team Leads to maintain downtown safety. Duties include planning and assigning daily patrols, managing shift schedules and resources, coordinating the Watch Truck, ensuring timely reporting, and providing leadership, supervision, and training to team members. The role works with community partners and internal stakeholders to support public safety and outreach initiatives, and to connect individuals with social supports. The position requires leading by example, maintaining uniforms and PPE, coordinating Safe Walk requests, and ensuring effective communication with the Public Safety Communications Centre. Candidate must be 18+, hold an AB Class 5 license, demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, be empathetic and customer-service oriented, and have awareness of Indigenous culture and diverse communities. This is an internal, full-time, permanent role with the City of Lethbridge/Lethbridge Police Service; applicants must apply through BambooHR.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Have a valid AB Class 5 Driver’s License (Non-GDL License Required)
- Demonstrated strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Be able to follow written and verbal instructions
- Superior customer service skills and de-escalation techniques
- Empathetic, friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing with a positive attitude
- Good team player with positive contribution
- Physically fit and able to walk many kilometers a day
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Awareness of Indigenous culture and history
- Awareness of diverse demographics and cultures within the City of Lethbridge
- Ability to supervise volunteers and team leads in field settings
- Current work experience as a full-time Watch Team Lead (internal) preferred
- Security clearances and background checks as outlined (police fingerprinting, polygraph, etc.)
