Job Summary

Senior VFX Artist for Liquid Development in Australia. Drive the creation and optimization of complex real-time VFX and shader networks to achieve the game's visual goals. Design, implement, and optimize complex real-time shader networks and materials to support VFX and rendering needs. Research and integrate innovative rendering techniques and tools to push visual quality. Lead tooling and pipeline optimization to automate content creation and improve team productivity. Act as the primary technical liaison between Art, Design, and Engineering to translate requirements into actionable goals. Mentor mid-level and junior artists on real-time VFX and optimization; document tools and workflows; stay current with engine updates and industry trends. Requires ~5+ years in games, strong pipeline knowledge, scripting/coding ability, and hands-on experience with modern game engines and key DCCs (Maya/3ds Max/Blender, Houdini, EmberGen, After Effects, Substance). Desirable AAA experience and familiarity with consoles; experience creating UI-focused VFX is a plus.

Required Qualifications

  • Approximately 5+ years of professional experience in the games industry
  • Strong foundational knowledge of the art pipeline
  • Demonstrated skills across Shader development, VFX/Particles, Pipeline and tool development, Real-time physics simulations
  • Proficiency in scripting and coding in one or more core languages
  • Hands-on development experience with modern commercial game engines
  • Familiarity with Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, or Adobe Suite and advanced skills in Houdini, EmberGen, After Effects, or Substance suite
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Desirable: AAA production experience; familiarity with Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox; motion graphics and in-engine VFX for UI elements

Desired Qualifications

  • Familiarity with at least one industry DCC package (Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, Adobe Suite) and advanced skills in at least one development package (Houdini, EmberGen, After Effects, or Substance suite)
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Desirable: AAA production experience, familiarity with console development (Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox)
  • Specialised experience creating motion graphics, interface animations and in-engine VFX for UI elements
  • Portfolio demonstrating real-time VFX work and shader networks
