Job Summary
Senior Underwriter, Property role focusing on commercial property across Canada with hybrid work from the Toronto office. Responsibilities include marketing to producers, reviewing submissions, terms, values, loss history, and catastrophe modeling; determining quote/decline decisions; pricing risks; developing/modifying policy wording within underwriting authority; leveraging AI-driven workbenches and predictive analytics; validating AI outputs; identifying digital tools to streamline submission intake and analyze unstructured data; actively cross-selling products; supporting service standards; collaborating with engineering, actuarial, claims, reinsurance, accounting, marketing, regulatory teams; mentoring junior underwriters; leading presentations and special projects; travel up to 25%. Qualifications emphasize experience underwriting large, complex risks, international/ multinational client experience, wide range of occupancies, data-driven risk pricing, broker relationships, and relevant designations or degrees; strong communication and digital literacy, with potential CIP/FCIP/CRM assets and English/French bilingualism. This role emphasizes a strong culture of inclusion and requires the candidate to work with a broad set of internal and external stakeholders while applying AI-assisted tools to enhance underwriting decisions.
Required Qualifications
- Experience underwriting large, complex risks
- In‐depth underwriting expertise in large multinational clients
- Experience with a wide variety of occupancies (manufacturing, heavy manufacturing, metals, real estate, forestry)
- Experience or aptitude with predictive modeling and data visualization tools for risk pricing and portfolio management
- Ability to interpret complex data sets and translate AI‐generated insights into underwriting strategies
- Strong insured and broker relationships and ability to target current/prospective contacts
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; advanced designations (CIP, FCIP, CRM) are assets; engineering degree is a plus
- Willingness to travel up to ~25%
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office; digital agility with underwriting platforms and AI tools
- Bilingual English/French is an asset
