Job Summary

Under technical direction, review applications and financial requirements for complex risks, determining acceptability and the need for additional evidence. Analyze quality, quantity, and profitability to prepare reports for management and determine appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis. Prepare quotes, answer inquiries from brokers and policyholders, and negotiate outcomes while escalating issues with proposed solutions. Market products through the brokerage community, maintain broker relationships, and provide guidance to other underwriters and functional areas. Keep current on provincial and federal regulations, industry trends, and relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Professional designations
  • Minimum five years underwriting experience within Programs or Commercial Auto
  • Advanced knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices
  • Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product specific knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and to make critical business decisions effectively
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other enterprise business tools, including responsible use of AI‐enabled technologies (such as Copilot or similar) to enhance efficiency, analysis and workflow in accordance with company policies
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
