Job Summary

Lead underwriting of new transactions and manage execution from initial read through closing, including LBO and financial modeling review. Serve as primary presenter to business line leadership and credit risk management on credit recommendations and lead legal documentation negotiation. Oversee assigned portfolio companies, conduct borrower market diligence, and identify deteriorating credit with key asset management recommendations. Prepare credit approval memos, amendment recommendations, and quarterly monitoring reports with internal rating updates. Manage junior portfolio managers and maintain accountability for underwriting quality and policy adherence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or master's degree in finance, accounting or other related field
  • 10 or more years of banking experience
  • Three or more years of management experience
  • Ability to travel periodically as needed (10%) to attend lender meetings, onsite visits, and travel to other U.S. Bank offices
  • The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days
  • Applicants must be able to comply with U.S. Bank policies and procedures including the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and related workplace conduct and safety policies
  • Certain positions may also be subject to the requirements of FINRA, NMLS registration, Reg Z, Reg G, OFAC, the NFA, the FCPA, the Bank Secrecy Act, the SAFE Act, and/or federal guidelines applicable to an agreement, such as those related to ethics, safety, or operational procedures

Desired Qualifications

  • Solid foundational grasp of general accounting principles, understanding of financial statements, financial analysis, and corporate finance understanding
  • Prior work experience in corporate finance, public accounting, senior credit (commercial, corporate, capital markets), mezzanine lending, and other similar backgrounds
  • Self-starter with willingness to work hard under pressure, while also developing ways to work smarter (assist in the improvement of tools, models, processes, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and at times, in an opaque environment with limited oversight
  • Innate curiosity in different industries / companies, sponsor finance, banking, capital markets, and the private equity landscape
  • Team focused attitude with a sense of curiosity, humility, and adaptability to work towards a common goal – to see a transaction through to close
  • Leadership abilities to manage deal teams (junior staff) and transaction situations requiring presentation skills and dialogue with bank senior leaders
  • Highly proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
