Job Summary
Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business comprising moderately to highly complex accounts. Underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk while maximizing profitability, executing business unit strategies across your portfolio. Cultivate relationships with internal partners and external agents/brokers to identify cross-selling opportunities and write accounts consistent with risk appetite. Identify new business opportunities using consultative marketing skills and develop agency sales plans aligned with regional goals. Travel regularly to meet clients and mentor less experienced underwriters. This Senior Underwriter operates within Travelers' Public Company Liability team, providing financial protection for public companies through coverages including Directors and Officers Liability and Crime.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Five to eight years of applicable underwriting experience
- Deep knowledge of products
- Working knowledge of the regulatory environment
- Working knowledge of local insurance and surety markets
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Ability to underwrite
- Ability to market products
- Ability to identify financial challenges
- Ability to analyze available information
- Ability to make decisions in alignment with risk appetite
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers
- Experience coaching and mentoring others
- Four years of underwriting experience
- Product knowledge
- Financial analysis experience
- Risk assessment experience
- Must be able to travel to such meetings
