Job Summary
Senior Travel Demand Modeler sought to develop, calibrate, and apply travel demand models (trip-based and activity-based) for transportation planning projects. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining models, refining mode choice and dynamic traffic assignment approaches, developing multimodal modeling components, and contributing to automation and workflow improvements. Must lead technical discussions with clients, mentor junior staff, support proposal development, and work with modeling tools (C++, Python, R) and GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS). Hybrid work option with Arlington, VA office; collaboration across a national portfolio and potential remote participation. Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field; proficiency with Cube/TransCAD/VISUM/DTALite/DynusT or similar, and strong data-analysis capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field
- 8 years of directly relevant, hands-on experience in travel demand modeling or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Demonstrated experience developing, calibrating, and applying models
- Proficiency and experience with one or more platforms: Cube, TransCAD, VISUM, TRANSIMS, DTALite, DynusT, or similar
- Ability to develop custom data analysis routines in Python, R, C++, or similar
- Proficiency and experience with C++ or demonstrated aptitude and interest in developing modeling-related software components
- Experience working with large datasets and model workflows/pipelines
- Advanced skills and experience in Excel and data analysis
- Experience with GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS)
