Job Summary
Define end-to-end mission concepts for NASA, government, and commercial customers, directly influencing technologies for Astrobotic's future lunar pursuits. Develop and review designs for lunar landers, rovers, surface power systems, and spacecraft, while performing thermal design and analysis to right-size thermal architecture. Conduct trade studies to support technical, business, and programmatic decision-making, and identify next-generation thermal management systems for lunar spacecraft. Resolve system-level impacts driven by thermal requirements and communicate with engineering disciplines, partners, and vendors to address technical risks. Translate abstract customer requirements into actionable product goals and system architectures for proposals and stakeholder presentations. Participate in cross-functional meetings to ensure solutions align with mission needs and the company technology roadmap.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar related discipline
- 5-10 years of relevant engineering experience
- Relevant advanced degree
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: space system development, systems engineering, structure/thermal design and analysis, mechanical & fluid systems, and/or manufacturing
- Experience developing technical content for proposals and external customer presentations
- Experience authoring and decomposing mission and system-level requirements
- Strong understanding of the launch, space, and lunar environments
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to self-start with minimal guidance
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing needs and requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience working with a wide variety of engineers with different skill levels and backgrounds
- Ability to adapt quickly
- Ability to think creatively
- Ability to make critical technical decisions
- Ability to take initiative in a fast-paced environment
- Eligibility to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance
- Applicant must be a U.S. Person: a US Citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., or a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)
- Applicant must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State or the U.S. Department of Commerce
Desired Qualifications
- Understanding of full end-to-end mission solutions
- Experience with mission architecture development
- Demonstrated experience writing and reviewing software scripts for automation & analysis
- Knowledge of NASA/industry engineering standards
- Demonstrated experience working in an agile environment, using organizational tools such as Confluence and Jira
