Job Summary
Senior Thermal Engineer responsible for developing primary/secondary structures, fluids hardware, and avionics able to withstand extreme thermal environments; own architecture and development of thermal systems (insulation, heaters, thermal protection, environmental conditioning); build/execute/validate thermal analyses at component to vehicle level, including tool development and automation; lead engineers in applying thermal sciences to meet system requirements; design and execute tests including test article integration, instrumentation, and data processing; support vehicle/engine thermal system development, stage testing, and flight operations. Requires Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years in thermal analysis, with proficiency in tools (Sinda/Fluent/Thermal Desktop) and scripting (MATLAB/Python). Nice-to-haves include graduate degree and 8+ years, knowledge of liquid rocket stages, aeroheating, and TPS materials.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- 5+ years experience in thermal analysis
- Proficiency in component and system level thermal and fluids analysis, using toolsets like Sinda/Fluent/Thermal Desktop or other commercial FEM/FDM solvers
- Experience in an analysis role on an integrated vehicle program
- Hands-on experience with writing test plans and performing testing, instrumentation, and data analysis at the component and system level
- Experience solving complex problems on integrated vehicles with design teams
- Experience with an engineering scripting language like MATLAB or Python
