Job Summary
Develop and launch new packaging solutions for pet food by collaborating with Product R&D, suppliers, and manufacturing teams from concept through commercialization. Design innovative packages using materials like film, thermoforming, and paperboard, then lead testing and validation across production, shelf life, and sustainability. Execute qualifications with suppliers and facilities, drive plant trials by analyzing results, and craft performance-based specifications in our electronic database. Advise on top-tier suppliers, propose new technologies and cost-saving ideas, and support technical troubleshooting across the supply chain. This hands-on role requires a Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science or related engineering, 2+ years of packaging development experience, and willingness to travel up to 30%. Based in Orrville, OH with a hybrid schedule of 60%+ office presence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Science/Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or related technical degree
- 2+ years of experience in packaging development or packaging engineering
- Knowledge of packaging materials, technologies, and applications
- Understanding of basic package attributes and qualification test procedures
- Experience collaborating across multi-functional and discipline boundaries in a dynamic project environment
- Experience conducting plant and lab trials
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
- Willingness to travel up to 30% based on project needs and launch schedules
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in the food or beverage industry
- Familiarity with packing line machinery and equipment (ex: flexible pouch, bagging, rigid container filling and sealing, case packing etc.)
