Job Summary
Operate, maintain, and repair aquatic life support equipment including filters, pumps, protein fractionators, and chemical dosing systems. Lead junior technicians in resolving life support issues while collaborating cross-functionally with zoological operations staff and vendors. Develop standard operating procedures and manage inventory of critical equipment and supplies. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory requirements and safety protocols for moving controlled materials. Work variable shifts including weekends and holidays to support animal care teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
- 3 years of hands-on experience operating life support systems and/or other mechanical systems
- demonstrated history of outstanding workmanship in plumbing (PVC primarily)
- maintenance of pumps, filters, valves, and ancillary equipment
- experience with chemistry in aquatic animal systems
- Aquatic Animal Life Support Operator (AALSO) Level 1 Life Support Certification
- ability to become certified within 1 year of employment
- Level 2 Life Support Certification
- Level 1 Water Quality Certification
- SCUBA certification
- ability to pass a swim test
- Experience with tools/power tools, machinery, and heavy equipment (forklift) operation
- general knowledge of electrical systems and control applications
- ability to interpret technical/mechanical drawings and schematics (P&IDs, blueprints, diagrams)
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications
- valid driver's license
- ability to lift 75 lbs.
- ability to maneuver in confining and lofty locations
- ability to work within a variety of environmental conditions (rain, snow, heat)

- excellent hand-eye coordination
- willingness and flexibility to work after hours, weekends, and holidays
