Job Summary
Create and update Item Purchase Descriptions for National Stock Numbers through product research, technical writing, data validation, and documentation review. Complete two-way updates within two weeks of receipt, supporting annual NSN creation and update workload requirements of up to 1,440 NSNs annually. Determine special instructions, performance standards, and product palletization requirements while researching applicable technical standards and references. Evaluate hazardous products for transportation requirements and assign appropriate Dangerous Article Codes. Validate data housed in PICS, GSA Advantage, and FLIS, preparing Cataloging and National Cataloging Action Log requests to update Technical Information Reports. Submit monthly progress report inputs covering NSNs received, completed production plans, cataloging requests, and mitigation strategies. This remote position supports engineering technical support services for the U.S. General Services Administration's General Products and Security Branch.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience of technical writing, engineering technical support, logistics, cataloging, supply acquisition, product research, or related experience
- Experience creating, updating, or validating Item Purchase Descriptions, Technical Information Reports, cataloging requests, or NSN-related technical records
- Knowledge of technical standards and references, including ASME, ASTM, ANSI, SAE, FED-STD, MIL-STD, CID, QP4, and QPD
- Experience using or supporting data validation in systems such as EDMS, PICS, GSA Advantage, FLIS, and HMIRS
- HAZMAT certification or ability to support HAZMAT-certified personnel requirements for General Products and Security Branch work
- Ability to evaluate hazardous products, Safety Data Sheets, transportation requirements, and Dangerous Article Code assignments
- Ability to produce accurate, complete, professionally written technical documents free of spelling, technical, and grammatical errors
- Knowledge of software including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace-compatible formats, Adobe PDF, Visio, and Project, among others
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment
