Job Summary
Senior Technical Advisor for OpenAI's National Security Policy in the Global Affairs Global Affairs team. Drive frontier AI safety and governance policy, serve as a senior technical-policy advisor on topics like risk thresholds, evaluations, CBRN, cyber, and autonomous agents; translate technical realities into policy products (memos, briefs, talking points, government responses, strategy documents) and build trusted relationships with AI safety researchers, think tanks, and government officials. Collaborate cross-functionally with Safety Systems, Preparedness, Alignment, Research, Security, Legal, and Product Policy; engage with national AI institutes and governance bodies; shape proactive policy strategies for responsible national security adoption and societal resilience. The role requires strong technical judgment, credibility in AI safety governance, and excellent writing/communication skills, with preference for candidates in Washington DC or San Francisco and openness to other US locations.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in frontier AI policy, AI safety, technical AI governance, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated credibility in the AI safety or frontier AI governance fields
- Experience working with senior internal or external stakeholders on sensitive policy or technology issues
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
