Job Summary
Own the end-to-end recruiting process for technical partnerships, business development, and regional management roles, designing strategies to attract elite PhD-level talent from AI labs, academic spin-offs, and science-first companies. Collaborate with hiring teams to draft job descriptions, define assessment criteria, and run interviewer calibration sessions to ensure alignment across interview stages. Act as a talent advisor providing data-driven market insights on compensation and hiring trends within the Deep Tech and AI for Materials Science landscape. Execute high-touch candidate experiences that convert applicants into advocates while maintaining rigorous data hygiene in the ATS for hiring visibility. Build and execute proactive outbound sourcing strategies to map networks and engage game-changing individuals, supporting the evolution of the Talent function and DEIB initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years experience hiring, placing high-level technical partnerships or scientific business development professionals for science or research-oriented organizations
- Experience thriving in ambiguity and fast-paced environments
- Experience working in fast-paced full cycle recruitment in start-up or scale-up environments
- Ability to pivot quickly when priorities change
- Ability to build appropriate processes from scratch where none exist
- Ability to utilise a newly established internal network
- Ability to look to understand the 'why' behind each new role
- Ability to build trust with hiring teams by asking questions and doing own research to get below the surface of the JD
- Ability to proactively stay on top of the latest best practices, tools and techniques in Talent Acquisition
- Strong track record of hiring for complex profiles in a technical or research-based organisation
- Ability to effectively understand the nuances between different engineering and research disciplines
- Ability to credibly screen candidates for different types of roles based on technical requirements
- Ability to build and execute proactive outbound sourcing strategies
- Ability to leverage hiring partner networks for referral streams
- Ability to keep hiring teams updated and set out clear responsibilities
- Ability to provide guidance on best practices to managers and senior leadership
- Genuine excitement about the intersection of AI and science
- Ability to passionately articulate the mission to candidates who want to use their skills to combat climate change and advance sustainability
- Ability to be in the office at least three days per week
- Ability to have working hours with some overlap with other teams in Europe
- Ability to work effectively with local partners
- Ability to spend at least a few weeks in the Cambridge/London office learning about the platform and getting to know the company in person
- Ability to handle regular travel to Europe and other regional and global locations for collaboration and project work
Desired Qualifications
- An academic background or professional experience within Materials Science, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering
- Familiarity with recruiting technical founders, PhD-level business developers, or translation-focused researchers
- Knowledge of the MLOps and deep tech startup ecosystem
