Job Summary
Senior Windows Systems Engineer/Group Lead overseeing a 3-5 person Windows Systems team. Responsibilities include supervising Windows Server environments, providing day-to-day guidance, maintaining performance monitoring and capacity reporting, delivering projects on-time and on-budget, driving automation and tool-building, contributing to technology roadmaps, mentoring new engineers, partnering with clients and stakeholders, conducting root-cause analysis with development teams, and engaging with partners to deploy solutions for client environments using Windows/related technologies. Role emphasizes leadership in a 24/7 service-provider setting, heavy emphasis on automation, scripting, cloud usage (AWS/Azure), and distributed systems at scale.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Sciences, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of hands-on systems engineering and administration in servers, networking, storage systems, and operating systems with emphasis on Windows Server platforms
- 3+ years as systems engineering and operations leader for service provider or advanced IT organization operating in a 24/7 environment
- 2+ years in a management/supervisory role
- Strong systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems)
- Extensive experience with automation, configuration management, and various utilities
- Automation experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, VBScript, JavaScript, or Python
- Familiarity with relational databases such as MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server
- Familiarity with agile engineering practices (Kanban, continuous delivery, etc.)
- AWS and Azure service usage on commercial or government cloud
- Experience with ticketing systems (ServiceNow preferred)
- Experience with monitoring systems and performance management related to IT systems/solutions
- Experience with distributed systems at scale
