Job Summary

Senior Systems Engineer at Applied Energetics leads the design, development, testing, and integration of advanced beam directors and optical control systems for ultrashort-pulse directed energy platforms. Responsible for defining system requirements, translating operational needs into engineering specs and verifiable metrics, and guiding multidisciplinary teams across the full lifecycle from definition through field testing and delivery. Key duties include developing verification plans, maintaining performance traceability, leading regular program reviews, managing technical and project risks (DFMEA and related activities), coordinating with stakeholders and vendors, establishing document control and material-management processes, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring compliance with environmental and military/aerospace development standards. Qualifications include a Bachelor's or Master's in engineering, 5+ years in systems engineering or related PM roles, experience with MIL-STD-810/461, CE, ISO, RoHS, DoD lifecycle processes, and U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance. Desired qualifications include experience with ultrashort pulse lasers, directed energy systems, PMP or FAC-P/PM certification, and prior DoD/aerospace environments. The role emphasizes leadership in multidisciplinary engineering teams, rigorous project management, and delivering complex, on-time products for defense applications.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Masters in an engineering discipline or related field
  • 5+ years' experience in systems engineering, technical project or program management or similar experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex products and solutions
  • Experience managing projects from R&D through production
  • Experience guiding systems through environmental certifications such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, CE, ISO, RoHS
  • Experience guiding products or systems through military or aerospace development lifecycles
  • S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
