Job Summary
Contribute to the design of new surgical platforms and instruments through control system analysis and prototype characterization. Implement motion control algorithms and apply control theory to verify mechatronic and tele-robotic systems. Analyze complex electro-mechanical devices for dynamic safety and clinical risk, creating safety monitoring algorithms based on sound physics. Participate in clinical observations and experiments to ensure performance requirements are realistic, while documenting and pursuing intellectual property. Support system performance tracking from design through manufacturing and improve group workflow through tool building and teaching. Work independently on project planning while collaborating to solve challenging problems in system integration and motion control for the daVinci Surgery product line.
Required Qualifications
- Theoretical training in and experience implementing classical and modern servo control systems
- Strong embedded C programming capabilities
- Hardware, software, and mechanism integration skills
- Strong engineering intuition for mechatronic systems
- Detail oriented
- Ability to develop and push a single solution to completion
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to balance collaboration on project planning and communication
- Passion for product quality and continuous improvements
- 6 years experience and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years experience; or equivalent experience
- Current proof of vaccination against certain diseases including COVID-19
