Job Summary
Senior Sustaining Engineer for the MONARCH platform in Johnson & Johnson MedTech Surgery, Santa Clara, CA. You will own lifecycle support of commercially released medical instrument and capital equipment, lead root cause investigations for field issues, assess design and process changes for safety and regulatory impact, coordinate design updates across cross-functional teams, produce documentation (test protocols, reports, drawings, engineering studies) in accordance with Quality System requirements, manage configurations and BOMs, support external manufacturing transfers, and oversee end-of-life activities. The role requires collaboration with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, and Regulatory Affairs to ensure ongoing safety, performance, and reliability. Qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, 4+ years in sustaining engineering or related roles in regulated industries, strong Design Control experience, CAD proficiency (SolidWorks), and the ability to work at the Santa Clara site. The position offers a base pay range of $125,000 to $201,250, with eligibility for annual bonuses and comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in sustaining engineering, product lifecycle support, or related engineering roles within a regulated industry (medical device, aerospace, automotive, or similar)
- Strong experience in Design Control and working in a cross-functional team setting bringing products from concept to commercialization in regulated industry (including medical device, automotive, aerospace)
- Demonstrated experience in designing and building test equipment and fixtures
- Working knowledge of component manufacturing processes (cabling, assembly, fabrication, 3D printing)
- Knowledge of mechanical design, mechatronics, sensors, electronics and software management
- Strong understanding of data analysis and statistics
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks)
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
- Ability to work at Santa Clara, CA site
