Senior Sustainability Consultant

Job Summary
Lead the development and delivery of sustainability, decarbonisation, and net-zero carbon strategies for major building and urban development projects. Provide technical leadership in environmental analysis, building performance modelling, embodied carbon, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and whole-life carbon studies. Guide multidisciplinary teams in integrating sustainability objectives into projects from concept through delivery, championing data-driven, parametric, and computational design approaches. Manage sustainability workstreams across multiple projects, overseeing project delivery, quality assurance, budgets, programmes, and client relationships. Lead the preparation and review of technical reports, sustainability strategies, certification submissions, and client presentations. Contribute to the growth of the Sustainable Design practice through mentoring, innovation, thought leadership, proposals, and business development activities. Based in Madrid, this role requires a Master's degree in Sustainability or a related field, 8-10+ years of experience, and professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, or a related discipline
- Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Design, Building Physics, or a similar field
- Proven experience in sustainable design, environmental consultancy, building performance analysis, or a related field, typically 8-10+ years
- Proven experience leading sustainability strategies and delivering complex building and/or masterplanning projects from concept through delivery
- Proven experience managing project delivery, technical quality, client engagement, and multidisciplinary teams
- Experience contributing to business development, proposals, and strategic growth initiatives
- Advanced knowledge of low-carbon design, building physics, environmental performance assessment, climate-responsive design, and decarbonisation strategies
- Strong experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), embodied carbon analysis, whole-life carbon assessment, and carbon reduction strategies
- Experience with environmental modelling and simulation tools
- Working knowledge of sustainability certification schemes and frameworks such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL, Passivhaus, or equivalent
- Professional proficiency in English and Spanish
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Design, Building Physics, or a similar field preferred
- Experience with parametric design and early-stage design tools, particularly Grasshopper, is highly desirable
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages is an advantage
- Additional languages will be considered an asset
