Senior Survey Technician

Job Summary

Conduct field surveys as Party Chief or crew member, providing lead direction and oversight to survey personnel. Operate surveying instruments to determine points, lines, angles, elevations, and distances for control, property, boundary, construction, photogrammetric, and topographic surveys. Run lines and grades for assigned projects, making field adjustments, taking notes, and creating sketches. Reduce field notes and calculations in the office while maintaining detailed daily records of work performed. Make sound, independent surveying decisions in the field and anticipate problems as they arise. Maintain assigned survey vehicle and manage daily equipment inventory. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot, cold, and wet environments, with occasional travel to local and out-of-town sites. Perform duties Monday through Friday for a 40-hour week.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years full time experience with a combination of two (2) years as an full time Assistant Technician and three (3) years as a full time Associate Technician
  • Five (5) years full time survey experience performing technician level surveying tasks with a minimum of two (2) years full time experience as a Party Chief
  • Proficiency with the use of personal computers, word processing and spreadsheet software, and operation of field survey equipment
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License and clean DMV record
  • Local and some out of town travel is required

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong math skills, preferably with course work in Geometry and Trigonometry
  • Course work in geomatics or land surveying
  • Advanced ability to interpret maps, drawings and diagrams
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and COGO software to draft topographic maps, plats and boundaries and other survey documents, and record drawings
  • Previous experience working on construction sites and familiarity with construction activities, hazards and safety measures
  • Proficiency with the use of Trimble Survey software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Strong work ethic and accountability
  • Ability to work as a team player and interact well with others
